DC brushless motor braking is usually using the motor itself for rapid braking there are two simple ways, one is energy consumption braking, one is short-circuit braking, energy consumption braking is the motor's kinetic energy consumption on the external braking resistance, short-circuit braking is the motor's kinetic energy consumption on the stator winding. Obviously, energy consumption braking is more beneficial to reduce motor heating. But the short brake need not make any changes to the hardware, simple and convenient is its outstanding advantage, so focus on the short brake.

The so-called short braking is to make the motor drive MOS tube on the arm (or lower arm) all conduction and the lower arm (or upper arm) cut-off state, the motor's three-phase stator windings are all short. The generator in the state of power generation is equivalent to the short circuit of the power supply. Because the resistance of the winding is relatively small, so it can produce a large short-circuit current, the motor kinetic energy can be released quickly, so that the motor instantaneously produces a great braking torque, can achieve rapid braking effect. The higher the motor speed, the larger the short-circuit current, the greater the braking force. However, it must be considered that the bearing capacity of MOS transistor can not exceed, so generally wait for the motor speed to reduce to a certain extent before using short brake.
